With a nod to the festive season, The Polite Tourist presents our much sought after walking tour – Those Ghosts Of Christmas Past. As a winter evening beckons, with darkness falling around The Eye of York and the shadows around the old York prison loom large - the spirits of those once housed within begin to stir and their tales await the curious. Wilful Murder? Is there any other kind of murder I hear you cry! 'When you go home, We will remember them. 🥀 'They shall not grow old, Claude Monet once said that "It's on the stength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly." A stroll through a narrow street in Bishophill with old cobblestones underfoot will bring to the attention of an observant wanderer the sight of a quaint cottage adorned with wooden shutters. Dear lovely folk of the mystifying and macabre kind - our Box Office for November is NOW open! The history of Fossgate in the City of York weaves a long shadow of criminality throughout the Victorian era. The @LadyBrigante loves nothing more than shocking unsuspecting folk with the tale that she was abandoned at birth by gypsies and raised en famille with kindly mice in the crypt of an old church. The Black Horse Passage of York enjoyed a long and far from illustrious reputation during the long Victorian era. The wild Moors or the beautiful Dales? Or a delicious Yorkshire Pudding. To enjoying a mug of strong tea with a divine 'Fat Rascal'. ‘River is time in water, As it came, As the river waters have flowed through the ancient City of York for millenia; another death from drowning is far from unusual.
