Statement Concerning TripAdvisor

Our Boycott of TripAdvisor

International bodies such as the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council and the majority of member states including the European Union recognise that the Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are illegal under international law.

Under international law, it is illegal for an occupying power to transfer its own civilians into a territory it occupies or to transfer all or parts of the population of the occupied territory within or outside this territory.

These acts constitute war crimes under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, as does the unnecessary destruction and appropriation of property in occupied territory.

Research by Amnesty International undertaken over the years has shown how Israel’s settlement policy is also one of the main driving forces behind the mass human rights violations of Palestinians resulting from its occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Data from a report undertaken by Amnesty International indicates that there are approximately 250 Israeli settlements comprising of tiny villages and large towns located in East Jerusalem and throughout the West Bank.

The expansion of these settlements has been the policy of successive Israeli governments along with the offer of tax incentives and generous subsidies for all Jewish Israelis wishing to move.

Why Boycott TripAdvisor?

TripAdvisor in their promotion of the properties and attractions within these settlements – contributes to, and profits from the development, maintenance and expansion of illegal settlements.

In their promotion of these Israeli settlements as a tourist destination built on occupied Palestinian land – TripAdvisor are supporting an illegal situation, fuelling human rights violations against Palestinians and as such are behaving in direct contradiction of their own diversity policy.
