Time Please!

‘A good local pub has much in common with a church, except that a pub is warmer and there’s more conversation.’

With a Nod to the Rich History of the Inns and Taverns of York – The Polite Tourist Presents a New Walk in York for January 2023 – Time Please!

At the heart of a local community and with many long-forgotten and some which enchant us still – the pubs of York have long been an endearing and enduring cameo within this city’s social history, and never more so than as the focal point for a sensational inquest!

Our new walking tour will not only reveal the stories of these inquests but will also shine a light on the understanding of death and the ritual of mourning so prevalent during the Victorian era.

The Clock of Coney Street York

For those of a curious and hardy temperament – why not come along and listen to the Lady Brigante one Sunday evening as she shares with you the tales of those ordinary folk including the story of the impressionable teenager, a love-lorn bigamist and a natural history tragedy.

And ALL lost to history – until now!

However, for those of a sensitive nature who are averse to real stories of tears, heartache and tragedy – Time Please! with the Lady B one Sunday evening may NOT be to your taste.
